LIHSA Dancers Summer Performances
On August 10th, LIHSA dancers under the direction of teacher, Susan Dodge, performed at the 43rd Annual Huntington Summer Arts Festival in Heckscher Park.
They will also be performing at the Mozart Festival at Planting Fields on Sunday, August 31st.
Linda Ciofalo to Perform at Lincoln Center
On Monday , September 22nd at 9:30 PM, LIHSA Jazz Vocal instructor, Linda Ciofalo will be performing with her quartet at the 4th annual Diet Coke Womens Jazz Festival. The event will take place at Lincoln Center's Dizzy's Club on Broadway @ 60th Street, NYC.

Musical Theatre Graduate To Appear on Broadway
2008 Musical Theatre graduate, Amanda Castanos will open on Broadway on July 21st. Appearing in the role of Marta in Spring Awakening, Amanda will be featured singing "The Dark I Know Well".
Nassau BOCES Hosts The Long Island Philharmonic at LIHSA
Nassau BOCES in partnership with the Long Island Philharmonic will present a Summer Strings Academy from August 18th -August 22nd at Long Island High School for the Arts. The academy is open to Nassau and Suffolk County students entering 8th through 11th grades. The Academy will included Master Classes, rehearsals, break-out sessions and culminate in a Friday evening concert. Art Major Awarded 1st Place
Recent graduate, Stefanie Aversa was awarded 1st place in the Annual Art Competition sponsored by the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County located in Glen Cove, New York. Stefanie's original piece, "Kindertransport" was also selected for permanent display in the museum's collection.
LIHSA Students Named Semi-Finalists in WOR's Shining Star Talent Search 2008
Three LIHSA students have been selected as semi-finalists in WOR Radio's 4th Annual Shining Star Talent Search. Dee Brown from the Vocal Music Department, Keli Price from the Drama Department, and Elora Rosch from the Musical Theatre Department have been chosen as three of the top twenty-five semi-finalists from a pool of over 500 applicants from the tri-state area. As semi-finalists, they each recieved a $100.00 award and had the opportunity to perform before a professional panel of judges at the Downtown Marriott Hotel in NYC on June 8th. The 2007 winner was LIHSA's own Blaire Goldberg from the Musical Theatre Department.
LIHSA Students Perform at the Dramatists Guild
Under the direction of LIHSA Theatre teacher, Abbe Gail Gross , students from our theatre department performed in "Most Likely To: The Senior Superlative Monologues", a play written by LIHSA Drama teacher, Michael Tester. The sold out performances featured students: Andrew Beck, Dee Brown, Alex Greif, Katherine Hoffmann, Lyle Mackston, Melissa Rapelje, Lauren Renner, Sarah Sixt, Joseph Wegmann, and Jesse Zeidman. This world premiere workshop was performed on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 17th @ 7:00 PM and June 18th @ 2:00 PM and 7 :00 PM at the Frederick Loewe Room at the Dramatists Guild, 1501 Broadway, NYC.
Congratulations to Dee Brown for Making it to the Top 6 in WOR Radio's "Shining Star" Competition!
On Tuesday, June 10th WOR News Talk Radio named LIHSA vocal major, Dee Brown one of 6 finalists in the Shining Star Talent Search 2008.
Dee wasl interviewed on The Saturday Morning Show with Joe Bartlett on Saturday, June 14th at 7:00 am and her song was played in its entirety. Dee can be seen performing her solo on the WOR am radio website.
Kim Larkin to Direct the I.M.P.A.C.T. Theatre Group
On Sunday, June 8th at 7:30 PM, LIHSA Vocal instructor, Kim Larkin will direct the I.M.P.A.C.T. Theatre Group in a production of "A Gala Broadway Revue". All proceeds will be donated to the Education Through Music charitable organization. The production will be performed at The Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal Street, NYC Tickets are $25.00 and are available at theatremania.com.
LIHSA Students Recognized as Scholar-Artists
On Sunday, April 6th at 6:30 p.m. LIHSA students Melissa Rapelje from the Glen Cove School District and Gabrielle Flores from the Lindenhurst School District were honored at the Long Island Arts Alliance Scholar-Artist Program Inaugural Gala. Also honored with an award of recognition was Music student Tyler Lee from the Bellmore School district. The Gala was held at the Tilles Center with a reception for students and families followed by an awards ceremony and performance in the Hillwood Auditorium.
